inspired, finally...

I suddenly have an overwhelming desire to create!

I want to sew something with this gorgeous tablecloth, I want to paint the cabinet in the spare room, I want to do something with the dark navy laminate in our kitchen, I want to make some curtains for our narrow bedroom windows, de-clutter cupboards & sheds, it's like I'm nesting (but I'm not) & I can't fight it...

I've been waiting for inspiration to hit me, it's been ages.  Now it's school holidays & we have a house full of guests due at any moment, creating will have to wait.  Though maybe I could manage just one coat of paint on that cabinet...

enjoying time...

so this little guy is my baby, growing up way too quick...
while the sun shines and it's just him & me, I'm reminded of how lucky I am to have had this time...
time to enjoy him, to play with him, to teach him...
to get to know him, to watch him explore life & to learn...
to be there for him...
and to make countless capes & masks for him...
and his friends...

It hasn't all been sunshine & smiles, he's been perhaps the most challenging of our three boys, in fact I've written several posts on the challenges of raising this little guy.  We often say if he was born first he may have been our one & only! But he is as adorable as he is horrid (perhaps even more adorable as he gets older), he is clever, hilariously funny, fiercely determined, a perfectionist & he wants to know all about everything right now.  He is so in love with his Dad, his brothers & his Muma.  How lucky we are to have him, and how blessed I am to have this time...

the vest...

I've been wanting to make Leonie's vest for so long now, I love it's simplicity & infact it's quite versatile too...
and since we're moving into warmer weather I thought I'd try it out using cotton, this one is 'Latte' from Bendigo Woolen Mills...

It's soft & drapey & I'm mostly happy with it, though I may have made the back a little wide...

I do think I'll try the winter version in a lovely warm charcoal wool too, how could I not!  Thanks so much for sharing this pattern Leonie, I love it!  More Creative Spaces here...

the weekend...

I spent the whole day in my jammies yesterday...
what a treat!
I managed some crochet for the shop while everyone else around here was quite content just to 'be'...
(thanks Pop for the handmade sword!..hhmmm, there's a bow & arrow out there somewhere too)
I love days like this.  As we get closer to the end of term and a super busy week ahead, it's nice to just hang out, no plans to do anything or go anywhere.  The boys enjoyed it with a bit of lego building, some wrestling, indoor cubbies, backyard adventures & booby traps (hhmm, had to pull the pin on that one..) a movie & even a toy box clean out! Meanwhile hubby relished in a day on the couch, flicking through the paper & watching some telly, although he did have a potter in the garden & even managed to cook us some dinner! Lucky, if it was left up to me it may have been toasted sandwiches or takeawy..

friday...

It's Friday again, and only 2 weeks left of school before the kids are on holidays!!  I don't know about you, but it seems to me that this term has completely flown by, it really feels like they only just got back there!

School concert time is already upon us, and costumes were a breeze for me this year.  We have a skeleton & an Aussie sports supporter, not even a tiny bit of stitching or gluing to be done, easy! I'll be sure to post some pics on the day...

This morning we woke to the rumbling of thunder & pelting rain, disappointing after that glorious spring sunshine but oh so nice all the same...

I did the 'dump & run' this morning.  I left my school boys to fend for themselves once inside the school gates, no waiting around in the cold wind for me today, I was busting to get home for my coffee & toast, and catch up on some blogs.  They didn't care in the least of course, it's really just me who likes to wave them into class...

We've our last school computer visit for the little guy today, he's very excited to meet up with his grade 5 buddy & learn some new computer games to tell his big brothers all about.  Even attending this each week gets me all emotional, I'm really going to have to toughen up between now & the start of school next year...

Library books to return, a few bags of clothes to deliver to the op-shop, a drum lesson for the big boy (yes DRUMS, the instrument of choice!!), and then whip up some meatballs with the yummy tomato & lentil dish I found in the latest Frankie for tonights dinner, you must try it, delicious...

No plans this weekend, except hubby has been given tickets to see his beloved Collingwood play, sitting with the players!! Followed by after game passes to the rooms.  He's beside himself excited, god love him.  It's just what he needs actually, today he's sitting in Jury Duty limbo, while awaiting test results for  a vicious looking mozzie bite, and the stresses of work on his mind...

I'm hoping the weather isn't too bad so the boys and I can get out & about a bit, hopefully time to make loads more garlands (above) and maybe visit a market or two, we'll see, the joy of no plans...

Happy weekend...

giddy...

Italian cottons making me giddy!  It's ridiculous I know, but I look at these beautiful yarns & I get butterflies...this used to happen when I'd walk into a fashion store, perhaps it's my age..geez is that sad?!

I've been drooling over this for quite some time but it's always been so expensive..until today, YAY for a bargain!! I picked up as many of these gorgeous balls as I could manage & dreamed the whole way home of what I might do with them...

I've 3 different hooks on the go, different sizes, different stitches trying to decide on what to create with this gorgeous cotton.  What I'm finding more & more is that I like simplicity, perhaps I need to stop thinking so much about it...
Don't expect great things, it's all looking a bit boring, but still I love it...

delicate...

I'm playing with some beautifully delicate cottons at the moment...
it's a very slow process working with such a fine thread, so it may take some time.  I'm usually quite impatient when it comes to making, I like to see the final product quick as a wink but I'm loving where this is taking me...
